More Than Placement

We help employers run their plan well.

A benefits plan works best when the people administering it understand the rules, the risks and the employee experience. HMR supports both the plan and the people responsible for it.

We train and support Plan Administrators so they can manage their responsibilities with greater confidence and consistency. Our guidance helps employers understand their plan, communicate more clearly, reduce avoidable administration issues and know when to involve HMR.

02

Customized Communications & Materials

We create and adapt practical materials to support the employer and its employees, including enrolment communications, employee guides, reminders, process templates and educational resources.

03

Our involvement continues after implementation. We remain available to help clients navigate plan changes, service questions and evolving needs, while providing practical guidance throughout the year.

For HR & Plan Administrators

Practical support for questions, changes, claims processes and administration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions people often ask before working with HMR.

Clear answers about employee benefits, personal insurance, business protection and working with an independent brokerage.

Is the initial consultation really free?

Yes. The initial conversation is complimentary and there is no obligation to proceed. The goal is to understand what you need, answer your questions and determine whether HMR is a good fit.

What does it mean that HMR is an independent broker?

HMR is not owned by an insurance company. We can work with multiple insurers and providers, allowing us to compare options based on the client’s needs rather than one company’s product shelf.

Do we have to change insurance carriers to work with HMR?

Not necessarily. Changing brokers and changing carriers are separate decisions. Depending on the situation, HMR may be able to become your advisor while the existing plan remains with the same insurer.

Can HMR help if our benefits costs keep increasing?

Yes. We can review your renewal, plan design, claims experience, funding approach and market alternatives. We then help you understand where costs are coming from and what options may be available.

How large does my business need to be to offer employee benefits?

You may be able to offer benefits with a very small team. Some carriers and plans will consider groups with as few as two eligible employees, while others require at least three.

Eligibility may also depend on employee participation, working hours, ownership relationships, benefit selections and the province where employees work. If a traditional insured plan is not the best fit, a Health Care Spending Account or another flexible arrangement may be worth considering.

HMR can review your team, priorities and budget, compare the available options and help determine the most practical solution for your business.

Do you train Plan Administrators?

Yes. HMR trains and supports Plan Administrators so they can understand their responsibilities, communicate the plan clearly and manage day-to-day administration with greater confidence.

We also remain available when questions or unusual situations arise.

Can HMR customize employee benefits materials for our organization?

Yes. We can help adapt plan-administration and employee communication materials to the employer and the plan, including enrolment communications, guides, reminders and other practical resources.

Can employees contact HMR directly?

Yes. Depending on the situation and plan, HMR can support employees and Plan Administrators with process questions, service issues and guidance on the appropriate next step.

Can individuals work with HMR, or do you only do employee benefits?

Individuals and families can work with HMR directly. We can help with life insurance, disability insurance, critical illness insurance, private health and dental coverage and reviews of existing personal insurance.

Can HMR compare life insurance from different insurers?

Yes. As an independent brokerage, HMR can review options from multiple Canadian insurers and help compare coverage structure, features and pricing.

Do you work with business owners?

Yes. We can help business owners explore key person coverage, buy-sell funding, shareholder or partnership protection, corporate-owned insurance concepts and other business-continuity or succession-planning needs.

Does HMR only serve Victoria and Vancouver Island?

No. HMR is based in Victoria, British Columbia, and is licensed to serve clients in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario. Product availability may vary by province and individual circumstances.

What should I prepare for the first conversation?

You do not need to have everything organized. For an existing benefits plan, useful items may include your current booklet or plan summary, latest renewal and rate information.

For personal insurance, basic information about your goals and existing coverage is enough to start.

How is HMR compensated?

For many insurance products, HMR is compensated by the insurer selected by the client. This compensation may include initial and ongoing renewal compensation.

Fee-for-service arrangements may also be available depending on the nature and scope of the engagement. Applicable compensation and potential conflicts are disclosed as required.
